Uralita is a Spanish multinational company that deals in building materials. With over 100 years of experience in the field, it has occupied a leading position in the markets and sectors in which it operates for several decades now.
Uralita’s strategic business areas cover items such as Insulation materials, Plasters, Tiles and Piping. Indeed, its manufacturing and marketing of these products has made it the main reference point in the Spanish and Portuguese building sectors, and it is the third largest manufacturer of insulation materials in Europe.
History
The origin of Uralita goes back to the beginning of the 20th century, when in 1907 it was one of the first European companies to introduce a new material destined to revolutionise the world of construction: fibre cement.
In the 1950s Uralita began to use plastic as a building material. In 1977, Uralita decided to introduce an interior wall system in Spain, which was already widespread in America, namely, plasterboard. Through its Pladur® brand, Uralita is currently the outstanding market leader in the sale of this material in Spain.
In the second half of the 1980s and the 1990s Uralita embarked on a process of international growth, mainly focusing on the neighbouring countries of France and Portugal.
It took over Poliglass in 1988, thus affording it a doorway into the insulation material business. In 2002, it acquired the German insulation company, Pfleiderer AG, which provided it with a launching pad for growth in the Eastern European and Russian market.
Cobert Roof Tiles
The tile business began back in the 1970s with the manufacturing of concrete roof tiles, to be later complemented as of 1985 with the production of clay tiles, and partnership agreements with the British manufacturer, Redland.
At present, Cobert, which is part of Uralita, manufactures and sells clay and concrete tiles, special pieces, bricks and roof accessories. Its production operations are based in Spain and Portugal.
The Cobert market, however, stretches beyond the confines of the Iberian Peninsula, as it exports its products to countries in North and South America, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.
